Description

Acharya charaka – hridya, chardinigrahan, purishsamgrahaniya, mutrasamgrahaniya Mahakashaya

Acharya shusruta – Nyagrodhadi gana

Acharya Vagbhatta – Nyagrodhadi gana

External Morphology:-

•15-20 meter medium to High tree

•The leaves are simple, shiny and dark green.

•Red-yellow flowers appear at the end of winter, and also at the beginning of spring.

•trunk circumference of more than 3.7 m (12 ft).

•fruit is round oval or oblong in shape with smooth leathery skin.

Rasa : Madhur, Amla, kashaya

Guna : laghu, ruksha( seed pulp), snigdha ( fruit)

Therapeutic Indication/Disease:-

Fruit – Deepen(increase appetite), chardihara (useful in vomiting) Seed pulp – Atisara (in diarrhea), pradara (in lucorrhea), prameha (diabetes)

Therapeutic Uses:-

1. Atisara – A paste of tender leaves of amra with tandulodaka is useful in diarrhea.

2. Raktapitta – Seed pulp juice in both nostril as nasya treatment.

3. Aruchi – Juice of ripen/ unriped fruit is useful in anorexia.

4. Rakta arsha – Seed pulp powder twice a day in bleeding piles.

Dose:-

Seed pulp – 1-1.5 gm

Bark – 3-6gm

Formulations:-

Bruhat gangadhar churna, nyagrodhadi churna, patrangasava, katak khadiradi kashaya
