Description

Myristica fragrans, commonly known as Javitri, is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 9-18 meters in height. It thrives in tropical climates and is native to the Indonesian Molucca Islands. The plant features simple, leathery, and glossy leaves that are elliptical or lanceolate in shape, arranged alternately on branches. The small, pale yellow flowers are unisexual and have a bell-shaped structure. The root system is relatively shallow. The plant bears fruits, which produce two distinct spices, nutmeg and mace. Mace is the aril or red, lacy covering of the nutmeg seed.
